Who are the Humanitarians? The Humanitarians are a 4 piece band hailing from Devon - John plays guitar and sings, Hayden drums, Geoff plays bass and Rich plays trombone and guitar. Taking inspiration from Artists such as The Specials,Black keys,Hendrix,The Who,David Bowie, The Jam, The Clash Dexys, The Levellers,White Stripes, Pink Floyd and Lou Reed, no genre is off limits. Ska, punk, rock, indie, folk and reggae all goes into the mix and the only rules are to just play every note like you mean it and believe in what you sing. Simple. Where are the bands who give a shit these days, anyway?
The band has two albums in the bag to date; the 2009 debut “Born” including the single 'The End of the world on TV', is still available on this site - just click on the 'BUY' page and follow the instructions - or from iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc. The 2012 follow up album “No Law” is available to download right now from all the usual places and includes the song "Call The Police” which won best EP at the 2012 South West Music Awards.
In 2013 the band released a CD EP of 4 tracks from "No Law" and also contributed a cover of The Beat's “Sugar & Stress” to the Specialized 2: Beat Teenage Cancer project which you can download from all the usual places or buy on CD still.
2014 sees us recording a cover of Madness' "Grey Day" for the Specialized 3: Mad Not Cancer project and that will be released in June. We've also recorded some original tunes and a cover of Al Wilson's Northern Soul classic "The Snake" - expect a new EP soon!
